Zines

I learned about zines through fanzines, where artists and writers would collaborate to make a fan made artbook dedicated to their favorite media. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I learned more about zines and their history. They have the potential to be powerful tools for political movements, activism, self expression or to get your voice out there and share your work! Many of the zines I have in my collection were made by my peers and local artists and I wish I could share them all, but unfortunately I did not have the time to scan in every cover.

Declan McCarthy

I picked this up at Fursquared this past year on a whim. It's got furries, dark humor, gay sex, violence, and on top of that: more furries. I love this zine quite a lot for how authentic it all is, and I am really drawn to that underground feel it has.

This is one of my favorite zines I have in my small little library. It is a collection of essays on different films with recommendations and opinions scattered throughout. I was selling my work and I had just made a zine all about my favorite films and the author of this zine came up to my table and gave this to me! We talked about our favorite movies, their time working as a projectionist, and our love of zines.

The Nadine Zine
Multiple Contributors

A delightful twin peaks fanzine all about the character Nadine! It contains comics, creative writings, analysis, and illustrations which were made by various artists and creatives. I love the collaborative nature of fanzines, and you can always tell in the finished project that so much love and consideration went into the works.
